Michael Jai White

Day 20: 29 Blackness

The 52 year old actor, director, writer, producer and martial artist (he knows 8 different art forms!) was the first African American to portray a major comic book superhero in a major motion picture, having starred as Al Simmons, the titular character in the 1997 film Spawn.

Fans of DC’s shows and games may recognize his work, he was the Bronze Tiger in the CW’s Arrow and was a mob boss in The Dark Knight film. He also voiced Green Lantern’s John Stewart in the Justice League Heroes video game and was the voice of Doomsday in Justice League Unlimited. One of my favorite roles was the title role in the blaxploitation parody film Black Dynamite.
